What is Collective Burden — and Are You Carrying It?

Have you ever had a day where your energy just dropped? Where you felt tired, heavy, and low — and you couldn’t quite explain why? Life has its ups and downs, and sometimes we simply have difficult periods. But sometimes, what you are feeling isn’t even yours.
If you are energy sensitive, there is a good chance you are also affected by what we call collective burden — the accumulated emotions and energies of the collective field of humanity.
What is Collective Burden?
We are all connected — energetically, and in ways that go far deeper than we often realize. When large numbers of people are experiencing the same emotions — fear, grief, anger, confusion — those emotions build up in the collective field. And if you are sensitive, you can absorb them without knowing it.
It feels exactly like your own feelings. That is what makes it so hard to identify.
A Personal Story
Let me share something that happened to me years ago.
We were at a relative’s home, helping with their garden — work we normally enjoyed. But this particular day felt different. As I walked along with the grass trimmer, I noticed I was getting angry. With every step, the anger grew.
And then it hit me: I am angry because the grass is growing.
The moment I recognized how absurd that was, I also realized — this is not my anger. No one around me was angry. What I was experiencing was a release of anger from the collective field, passing through me.
That is collective burden. It arrives without warning, feels completely real, and can be very difficult to identify as something external — unless you know what to look for.
How to Handle It
The approach is the same as with personal energy sensitivity — and it is beautifully simple.
Drop into your heart and ask yourself: Is this reasonable?
That one question creates distance. And distance is everything. When you step back from the feeling and question it, you can often sense whether it truly belongs to you — or whether it is something passing through.
From your heart, repeat your affirmation:
I love myself! I am worthy of feeling good!
This simple practice often causes collective burden to release and lift. You may feel lighter almost immediately.
You Are Not Broken
If you find yourself experiencing sudden shifts in mood or energy that seem to come from nowhere — please know that you are not broken, and nothing is wrong with you. You may simply be a sensitive soul who is picking up on more than most people realize is even there.
That sensitivity is part of your gift. Learning to work with it — rather than being overwhelmed by it — is part of your journey.
The more you practice questioning your experiences, returning to your heart, and using your affirmation, the easier it becomes to move through these moments with grace rather than confusion.
If I can do it, so can you!
